Les dernières images satellitaires et autres observations indiquent qu’Eleanor s’est intensifiée en une forte tempête tropicale. A 1600 heures, Eleanor était centrée à environ 470 km presqu’au nord-nord-est de Maurice, soit autour du point 16.6 degrés sud en latitude et 60.3 degrés est en longitude.

Durant les dernières six heures, Eleanor s’est incurvée davantage vers le sud-sud-ouest et se déplace maintenant à une vitesse accélérée de 20 km/h.

Sur cette trajectoire, la forte tempête tropicale Eleanor représente un danger potentiel pour Maurice.

 

Un avertissement de cyclone de classe II est en vigueur à Maurice.

 

Il est conseillé au public à Maurice de prendre les précautions préliminaires.

 

Des nuages associés aux bandes externes de la forte tempête tropicale commenceront à traverser l’île tard ce soir avec des averses modérées à fortes.  Le temps devrait se détériorer rapidement demain matin avec des averses éparses et orageuses.

 

Le vent se renforcera graduellement ce soir de l’est à une vitesse d’environ 30 km/h avec des rafales atteignant 80 km/h, se renforçant davantage demain matin.

 

La mer deviendra graduellement très forte à grosse avec des houles au-delà des récifs et des vagues de 6 à 8 mètres. La marée de tempête pourrait occasionner des inondations côtières en basse altitude au nord, à l’est et au sud. Les sorties en mer sont déconseillées.

Latest satellite pictures and other observations are indicating that Eleanor has now reached the severe tropical storm intensity. At 1600 hours, it was centered at about 470 km almost to the north-north-east of Mauritius near latitude 16.6 degrees South and longitude 60.3 degrees East. Over the last six hours, Eleanor has recurved further towards the south-south-west and is now moving at an accelerated speed of about 20 km/h.

 

On this trajectory, severe tropical storm Eleanor represents a potential threat to Mauritius.

 

A cyclone warning class II is in force in Mauritius.

 

The public in Mauritius is advised to take preliminary precautions.

 

Clouds associated with the outer bands of the severe tropical storm Eleanor will start to cross the Island as from late tonight with moderate to heavy showers. The weather is expected to deteriorate rapidly with widespread heavy thundery showers tomorrow morning. The heavy showers are likely to cause flooding in the usual places.

 

Wind will gradually increase tonight, blowing from the east at a speed of about 30 km/h with gusts reaching 80 km/h, strengthening further tomorrow morning.

 

Sea will become very rough to high with swells beyond the reefs and wave height of 6 to 8 metres. Storm surge is likely to cause coastal inundation in the northern, eastern and southern low-lying areas. The public is advised not to venture at sea.
