Paul Bérenger suspendu pour six séances parlementaires

Le leader du MMM a été suspendu pour les six prochaines séances du Parlement après une altercation avec le Speaker de l’Assemblée Nationale le 15 avril 2024.

“Hon. Paul Bérenger named for his grossly disorderly behaviour, for uttering the word “sovaz” and for disregarding the authority of the Chair”

“Hon. Paul Bérenger suspended for the day’s sitting and the next 6 sittings unless unreserved apologies are tendered to the House.”

Mr Speaker:
“Hon. Members
I named the Honourable Paul Bérenger earlier for his grossly disorderly behaviour, for uttering the word “sovaz” to the address of the Hon. Prime Minister and when requested by the Chair to withdraw same and to apologise, the Honourable member disregarded the authority of the Chair and uttered the word “sovaz” to my address.” The Honourable Prime Minister:
“Mr Speaker, Sir, in view of your decision to name the Honourable Paul Bérenger, I beg under Standing Order 17(3) to take the time of the House for urgent business.”

The Honourable Deputy Prime Minister SECONDED.

Mr Speaker put the following question:
“The question is that the Honourable Prime Minister be allowed under Standing Order 17(3) to take the time of the House for urgent business. Those in favour say AYE. Those against say NO. The AYES have it.”

The Honourable Prime Minister:
“Mr Speaker, Sir, having obtained your permission, I beg to move under Standing Order 29(1) to present a motion without notice.”

The Honourable Deputy Prime Minister SECONDED.

Mr Speaker put the following question:
“The question is that the Honourable Prime Minister be allowed under Standing Order 29(1) to move a motion without notice. Those in favour say AYE. Those against say NO. The AYES have it.”

The Honourable Prime Minister:
“Mr Speaker, Sir, in view of your decision to name the Honourable Paul Bérenger, I beg to move that the Honourable Paul Bérenger, be suspended from the service of the Assembly for today’s sitting and the next 6 sittings unless unreserved apologies are tendered to the House.”

The Honourable Deputy Prime Minister SECONDED.
