At 1000 this morning, the tropical depression was centered in latitude 14.7 degrees South and in longitude 72.2 degrees East at around 1360 km to the east of St Brandon.
t is moving towards the west at a speed of 30 km/h.
Environment conditions remain favorable for further intensification and the Numercial Weather Predictions are in agreement that the system will maintain a general westerly track.
Under this scenario, the tropical depression is likely to intensify further into a Moderate Tropical Storm today. It will then be named DIKELEDI.
It is expected to pass very close to the north of St Brandon in the night of Thursday 09 January 2025 and therefore represent a potential threat to the island.
Weather will become showery as from Thursday. The showers will be moderate to heavy at times with thunderstorm.
Wind east south easterly 30 km/h, strengthening gradually to 50-60 km/h with gusts of the order of 100km/h as from the evening of Thursday 09.
Sea will become gradually rough with swells as from tonight, deteriorating further on Thursday 09 with waves of the order of 4-6 metres. It is advised not to venture at sea as from tonight.
The public at St Brandon is also advised to secure their boats and to stay in secure places.
It is to be noted that the uncertainty in the models increases beyond three days.

A 10h00 ce matin, la dépression tropicale était centrée autour du point 14.7 degrés en latitude et 72.2 degrés en longitude, soit environ 1360 km à l’est de St Brandon .Elle se déplace vers l’ouest à une vitesse de 30 km/h.
Les conditions sont favorables pour qu’elle s’intensifie davantage et les modèles numériques sont en accord que le système va maintenir sa trajectoire vers l’ouest.
Sur ce scénario, la dépression tropicale pourrait s’intensifier davantage en une tempête tropicale modérée en s’approchant de St Brandon. Elle sera alors nommée DIKELEDI.
Elle devrait passer très près du nord de St Brandon dans la nuit du jeudi 09 janvier 2025 et représente ainsi une menace potentielle pour l’île.
Le temps sera pluvieux à partir du jeudi. Ces averses seront modérées à fortes par moments avec orages.
Vent de l’est sud-est de 30 km/h, se renforçant graduellement à 50-60 km/h avec des rafales de l’ordre de 100 km/h à partir de la soirée du jeudi 09.
La mer deviendra graduellement forte avec des houles à partir de cette nuit, se détériorant davantage à partir de jeudi 09 avec des vagues de 4 à 6 mètres. Il est conseillé de ne pas s’aventurer en mer à partir de ce soir.
Il est également conseillé au public de St Brandon de sécuriser leurs embarcations et de rester dans des endroits sûrs.
Il est à noter que les incertitudes des modèles augmentent au-delà de trois jours.
