Women Entrepreneurs are adaptable, creative and resilient!!!

Rotary Club of Phoenix Empower Women Entrepreneurs

Women have a vital role in social change. Investing in women’s economic empowerment is investing in new leadership for a better society. International studies have proven that women have a global role in ensuring stability, development and progress as educators, entrepreneurs and caretakers of their family and of a nation.

In Mauritius, women empowerment is considered a must to tackle discrimination and some forms of gender-based violence. Several women empowerment programmes have been provided to women to date and should be an ongoing process.

At the Rotaty Club of Phoenix we have been conducting this project since 2022 and are just launching our third cohort of participants. This year the project is with the collaboration of RJ Trust for the venue and a number of places being offered to members of the National Women Entrepreneur Council .

This Project is a tailored-made empowerment programme to address the training needs of women entrepreneurs or aspiring entrepreneurs 
The project aims at strengthening women’s self confidence and self-esteem through various training programmes, which provide the soft skills of entrepreneurship but developing professional skills. 

Thus the training aims at revealing the woman entrepreneur in each participant, in making her realise that she is a beautiful human being and can become economically empowered in her own right.

The programme also promotes economic and personal independence through the development of social and soft skills. It provides the participants with tools to help her set up her own business and learn how to become a successful business woman.

It is also an economic empowerment programme as all participants will be able either to work together, as one of the outcomes is to ensure by the end of all the training sessions they are entrepreneurs or they can collaborate together by creating a small cooperative if any of them want to. In all this we encourage collaboration 

As a service club working with the community, we at Rotary Club of Phoenix have always been strong believers that our brand, our products and our services will collectively and ultimately serve a greater good for people. It is our philosophy to help people create and nurture a better lifestyle for themselves and their families, that will ensure their long-term happiness, satisfaction and fulfilment. And this can only contribute to the creation of a healthier and more fulfilled society.

This is why this project to empower the women entrepreneurs is a cause that we at the Rotary Club of Phoenix whole heartedly believe in and which we look forward to foster more in the future. We are conscious of the fact that we live in a materialistic and fast-paced society, where very often the strong neglect and forget the weak, and women are usually the first to be the victims of job losses etc. 

We are following up regularly with women entrepreneurs trained through The Rotary Club of Phoenix 
Allowing the women these platforms to connect and share has been a great way for them to believe they are not alone.
Training women entrepreneurs in Financial Literacy, Business Plan development, Schemes offered, Administration of business, among others.

How to create their brand, markets, visibility totally online?
-Encourage the women to network, join the right platforms to be with like-minded women entrepreneurs. 
-Be there for them by offering mentoring support 
-Challenge the women to find the courage to rise, to grow to take the risk and leap forward, sometimes into the unknown but with a good support system and grit determination anything is possible 
-New business trends are emerging women, entrepreneurs must be ready to learn, upskill, keep upto date and accept change as a necessary tool for survival
