
Minister of Housing and Lands of the Republic of Mauritius, held a meeting on Thursday 17 April 2025 with Mr. Mohamed Arkab, Minister of State and Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. This meeting took place in Algiers, where Hon. Mohamed was present as the Special Envoy of the Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam.
During the meeting, Minister Arkab conveyed the warm congratulations of H.E. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Government, and the people of Algeria to the Prime Minister of Mauritius on his recent electoral victory.
The two dignitaries also discussed opportunities for enhanced cooperation, and Minister Arkab positively responded to a proposal by Hon. Mohamed for both countries to enter into a bilateral trade agreement.
Hon. Mohamed underlined Mauritius’s recognition of Algeria’s expertise in electricity and LNG production, as well as its forward-looking national strategy for renewable (green) and clean (blue) hydrogen as part of its energy transition and climate commitments. He further explained that the new Mauritian government, under Dr. Ramgoolam’s leadership, is committed to ensuring long-term energy stability and cleaner energy production.
The proposal for a strategic energy partnership – including the sharing of technology, resources, and capacity building – was welcomed by the Algerian side. Minister Arkab requested that Hon. Mohamed facilitate contact with relevant Mauritian authorities to follow up on this promising collaboration.
Minister Arkab also conveyed that President Tebboune has instructed all relevant institutions to extend full support and cooperation in response to the requests of the Prime Minister of Mauritius.
Le 17 avril 2025 à Alger, l’Hon. Mohamed, ministre mauricien du Logement et des Terres et envoyé spécial du Premier ministre Ramgoolam, a rencontré M. Arkab, ministre algérien de l’Énergie et des Mines. M. Arkab a transmis les félicitations algériennes pour la victoire électorale du Premier ministre mauricien.
Ils ont discuté d’une coopération accrue et M. Arkab a favorablement accueilli une proposition d’accord commercial bilatéral. L’Hon. Mohamed a souligné l’expertise algérienne en énergie (électricité, GNL, hydrogène vert et bleu) et l’intérêt de Maurice pour une stabilité énergétique et une production plus propre.
Un partenariat énergétique stratégique a été proposé et bien reçu par l’Algérie, qui a sollicité la facilitation des contacts avec les autorités mauriciennes compétentes. M. Arkab a également assuré du plein soutien du président Tebboune aux demandes du Premier ministre mauricien.
