Export and Import Price Indices for 1st Quarter 2023

The average quarterly EPI increased from 142.2 in the fourth quarter of 2022 to 153.0 in the first quarter of 2023, representing an increase of 7.6%. That was mainly due to increases in the prices of “Food and live animals” (+11.8%), “Miscellaneous manufactured articles” (+4.9%) and “Chemicals and related products, n.e.s” (+9.4%).

The Import Price Index (IPI), calculated on a quarterly basis, increased by 1.3% from 168.0 in the fourth quarter of 2022 to 170.1 in the first quarter of 2023. That was mainly the effect of increases in the prices of “Food and live animals” (+5.2%), “Machinery and transport equipment” (+5.9%) and “Chemicals and related products, n.e.s” (+8.5%), partly offset by decreases in the prices of “Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials” (-1.9%).
