Compared to fourth quarter of 2022, labour force increased by 20,900 with increases of 20,300 and 600 in employment and unemployment respectively. The number of persons outside labour force decreased by 18,100 during the same period.
The activity rate for first quarter 2023 increased by 3.8 percentage points to 58.3% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2022. The male activity rate increased by 2.4 percentage points to 70.3% and the female activity rate increased by 5.1 percentage points to 47.0%.
Compared to fourth quarter 2022, the activity rate increased by 1.9 percentage points. The male activity rate decreased by 0.1 percentage point and the female activity rate increased by 3.7 percentage points.
From first quarter 2022 to first quarter 2023, employment increased by 49,300 to 551,800; male employment increased by 18,700 and female employment by 30,600.
Compared to fourth quarter 2022, employment increased by 20,300; both male and female employment increased by 1,200 and 19,100 respectively.
