Charles Telfair Campus launches World-Class Faculty of Health

Expanding the pool of high-quality healthcare talent is vital and remains a national priority in Mauritius. Dr Jeremy Charoux (Executive director) explains that the mission of Charles Telfair is to further raise the standard of health care services in Mauritius via the launch of a new, world-class faculty of health.

Our differentiating factor has always been our international academic partners, pedagogical approach, close collaboration with industry, modern infrastructure and highly qualified team of lecturers and admin staff. I am pleased to share that the same success factors have been applied to our health faculty which will increasingly provide Mauritius with a growing range of international health-care programmes which meet the highest quality benchmarks.

For healthcare to truly develop in Mauritius, it needs to be openly accessible to school leavers with a wide range of study options and pathways. Together with South Metropolitan TAFE, we will launch a Certificate in Preparation for Health & Nursing studies. A student who has O-levels can complete this certificate in 6 months and thereafter gain entry into an internationally recognised Curtin BSc Nursing Global degree. Additional O-level study options we offer include a certificate in Health Care Assistance and a Certificate in Pathology.

Our Faculty of Health extends beyond vocational programmes and includes a BSc in Nursing (Global) as well as a BSc in Psychology from Curtin University. (Ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world). To gain entry into these degrees students will need to have obtained the required A-level results, or to have completed either a Curtin Foundation programme, or the TAFE certificate in Preparation for Health and Nursing studies. For those practitioners who already hold a diploma in Nursing, a top-up Curtin BSc Nursing degree is also available. A Curtin post-graduate programme in Applied Psychology will be commencing next semester, providing graduates with the requirements to register with the Allied Health Professionals Council of Mauritius and thereafter practise as a professional psychologist.

Students graduating with any of these qualifications can be reassured that they will have been exposed to the highest level of health-care education as per international standards.
