Accord FIU Maurice et FIU Emirats Arabes Unis

Cabinet has agreed to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Republic of Mauritius and the Financial Intelligence Unit of the United Arab Emirates. The objective of the MoU is to facilitate, the analysis of suspected cases of money laundering, associated predicate offences or terrorist financing, with a view to disseminating information which may ultimately result in investigations and prosecutions by competent authorities in their respective countries. The MoU sets out the arrangements for the two institutions to, inter alia,:
(a) cooperate in assembling, developing and analysing information relevant to suspected money laundering, associated predicate offences or terrorist financing;
(b) freely exchange, spontaneously or upon request, the widest range of available or obtainable information;
(c) conduct queries on behalf of the requesting FIU and provide all information that it would be able to obtain if such queries were carried out domestically;
(d) refrain from disclosing information affecting sovereignty and national security; and
(e) exchange information safely and through reliable mechanisms or channels.
