The satellite pictures show the evolution of several tropical low-pressure areas along the Inter- Tropical Convergence Zone in the South West Indian Ocean.
The latest available numerical weather prediction models indicate the following:
a. The tropical low-pressure area to the southwest of Diego Garcia is expected to move towards the south and is likely to intensify gradually early next week. In the event, it reaches a Moderate Tropical Storm intensity, it will be named ‘DJOUNGOU’ while being located around 700km to the northeast of Rodrigues.
b. Evolving in a favourable environment, the system is expected to intensify further and is likely to influence the weather at Rodrigues as from Tuesday 13 February.
Weather outlook for Friday 09 February to Wednesday 14 February, 2024
Mauritius:
Passing showers over the high grounds and windward slopes.
Wind mainly easterly 20-30 km/h with gusts of 60 km/h.
Rodrigues:
Passing showers, becoming frequent as from Tuesday 13 February. Wind east-south-easterly 35 km/h strengthening gradually with gusts of the order of 70 km/h. The sea will deteriorate gradually with wave heights of the order of 5 metres as from Tuesday 13 February 2024
