Severe Weather Bulletin for Mauritius

Convective activity, associated with the monsoon trough is being observed between Agalega and Diego Garcia. A weak low pressure area can be located almost to the east of Agalega.

This system is likely to move towards the South east initially and then recurve towards the West-southwest as from Thursday 29 heading towards Madagascar as from Friday 01 March.

The low transiting to the north of the Mascarenes is likely to deepen as from Friday 01 March when it will be located at about 750 km to the north-northwest of Rodrigues. As the low moves towards Madagascar, most weather models agree that it may intensify further into a tropical storm while approaching the east coast of the Malagasy Republic.

While the low-pressure system tracks west-southwest, it will extend a trough towards the Mascarene Islands; significantly active clouds are likely to influence weather at St Brandon, Rodrigues, and Mauritius with heavy showers and thunderstorms.

The combined effect of the low pressure and an anticyclone to the south of the Mascarenes will maintain a windy weather over the Mascarene Islands during the weekend.
