Based on the information provided by Statistics Mauritius on the 30th March 2023, we can conclude that employment in the EOE (Export Oriented Enterprises) sector increased by 1.5% in the third quarter of 2022, from 35,586 to 36,109.

This increase was mainly driven by the expansion of existing enterprises, which created 829 new jobs, while some contraction in workforce in existing enterprises led to the loss of 306 jobs.

Male employment increased by 195, from 19,340 to 19,535, while female employment increased by 328, from 16,246 to 16,574. The number of Mauritians employed in the EOE sector increased by 144 (+0.7%) while the number of foreign workers increased by 379 (+2.4%).

Looking at the employment trend from December 2021 to December 2022, total employment in the EOE sector increased by 3.1%, from 35,024 to 36,109. However, there was a decrease of 60 Mauritian workers (-60) and an increase of 1,145 foreign workers (+1,145).

Overall, the EOE sector seems to be expanding with the creation of new jobs, although there are some fluctuations in the number of Mauritian workers employed in the sector. The increase in foreign workers could be due to a number of factors such as skills shortage, demand for specific types of labor, or the willingness of foreign workers to work in the EOE sector.
