The Urban Dance Festival « BOUZÉ », an event by Wake Up Entertainment, is holding its first edition from 3rd of August to 06th August 2023. The festival will offer discussion panels with professionals in the local industry by professionals from abroad, dance workshops for the public & local professionals.

The festival main event is a dance battle, the national final of Wake UP Session which will be held on Sunday 06th at Institut Francais de Maurice.

The festival will offer discussion panels with professionals in the local industry by professionals from abroad, dance workshops for the public & local professionals. The festival main event is a dance battle, the national final of Wake UP Session which will be held on Sunday 06th at Institut Francais de Maurice.

A total of 8 dance initiation classes will be proposed to the general public by local dance coach. The dance initiation will be in 8 different urban dance styles. Each of these classes will be free to the public, they will need to book their courses online through a google form.

The dance professionals from South Africa, Mayotte and Reunion Island will also offer training to our local professionals to help them master the pedagogic approach to teach youths amongst other things.

Here below are the dance initiation classes being proposed, to beginners, no dance experience needed.

OPEN DISCUSSION – August 5th (3 p.m. – 5 p.m.)

The guests from South Africa, Mayotte and Reunion Island will share their experience with local dancers and lead a round table in the amphitheater at Institut Français on topics such as:
1. Professionalization in the urban dance culture
2. Break dance in the World Olympics
3. Inclusivity in dance sports.

BATTLE – Sunday 6th at Institut Français de Maurice Rose-Hill
The main event to close the festival will be the final of “Malta Guinness Wake Up Session”, a popular street dance competition that has been promoting dance battles since 2010.

The competition will consist of a 1 on 1 contest in three different categories, namely HipHop, Breaking and Afro Dance.

Since the beginning of this year, qualifications have been taking place in several regions of Mauritius, and in August the 6 finalists in each category will compete to win the title of Champion.

The winner in each of the three categories will have the opportunity to travel to Reunion Island to participate in workshops and competitions.
